5 minutes with…Tincture

Did you know that the air inside our house can be upto 5 times more polluted than the air outside?! We spoke with Angelika Davenport, Founder of award-winning British brand TINCTURE about their mission to detoxify our homes.

Angelika, why did you found Tincture?

It was born out of necessity - both of my children were suffering from severe asthma, hay fever, and dermatological problems. I began researching all of the products we were using in the home to clean not only the house but ourselves and realised that we were exposed to a number of chemicals. Then began my quest to completely eliminate toxins from our home and Tincture was born!

Here at Cloth we offer a re-dying service for our clients and all of our packaging is compostable. Tell us about your packaging and do you practice a circular economy?

Well firstly all of our packaging is recyclable and we also sell refills which come in beautiful glass bottles. We are advocates of reducing single-use plastic. Our products are fully biodegradable with all ingredients used sourced from sustainable sources. We also use active silver in our bottles which ensures that they remain bacteria-free at all times - inside and out - this makes all of our bottles safe for multi-use, forever. Your cleaning products smell so good that it actually makes cleaning the home enjoyable! How have you achieved this? Thank you! The scents come from active essential oils which all of our formulas contain. These are known to have a number of healing and cleansing qualities: from antibacterial and antiseptic to deodorising and antidepressant properties.
Sage, for example, has anti-fungal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties.

We create natural dyes from the eucalyptus plant. We love that it gives our fabric antibacterial properties. Do you use eucalyptus at Tincture?

YES! All our products contain eucalyptus, but it's the Washing Up liquid where its fragrance really sings, and we use it as a predominant ingredient! It is a fantastic immunity booster due to its antibacterial properties and is used as a natural option to combat colds and allergies that hamper breathing; it’s great for clearing sinuses etc.

What are you most proud of in your entrepreneurial journey so far?

When a mother wrote to me and shared her story of how her eight-year-old daughter had been allergic to every eco-cleaner on the market with partially hospitalising reactions and she told us that TINCTURE was the first cleaning range she could use safely around her child without an adverse reaction! Many products on the market claim to be “natural” but most of them contain many hidden chemical nasties; whereas our formulas at Tincture are 100% natural so that our homes, families, and planet can be healthy!
